The annual all Women’s fishing tournament has been providing friendly competition and good times for beginners and experienced fisherwomen since 1996. Round up a crew of 7-10 ladies who are ready to “get their hands wet” and spend the day drifting down the river with an experienced guide and baitboy. Your main objectives are as follows: Have fun, and catch steelhead. From February 1st to the middle of March, we’re on the lookout for the woman who catches the biggest steelhead and the woman who catches the most steelhead. To close out the tournament, our champions will go home with a prize package that will be awarded to them at the annual Fish Dance. Every year Women with Bait manages to be better than the last. The annual Women’s steelhead fishing tournament runs from Feb 1 through the middle of March. * Advanced reservations are required. Booking opens Feb 1st for the FOLLOWING year.

The Annual, “Sacred Salmon Ceremony”is free & open to all people.  It is held the 2nd Saturday of every May near the Spring Bar boat ramp,10 miles from Riggins, up the big Salmon River.  It commences at Noon, mountain time, and is jointly orchestrated by a Nez Perce elder and a local river guide. The ceremony is a commemoration to the annual return of the Chinook salmon to the river of their name sake.  Within every salmon’s spirit,  its DNA carries an ancestral memory of the land and water. When it dies, it gifts people with its flesh and recycles nutrients into the community of all other life forms. As conscientious humans, we consider the return of the Chinook Nation as a sacred event and thus honor this annual gift, to help inspire their continued return. The celebration is also a touchstone event to help remember treaty obligations and the importance of maintaining the integrity of all major elements that shape the human landscape of our area.
